Royal Fashion

The Royal Wedding of Prince William and commoner Kate Middleton took place on April 29, 2011.  Kate's wedding dress was kept secret until the morning of the wedding, however some speculation arose when a woman in a fur hat (assumed to be Sarah Burton) went into the Middleton's hotel. The mystery woman was wearing a signature belt which allowed fashionistas to recognize her.  Kate looked absolutely stunning in her wedding dressed designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen.  The gown has a train that is nine feet long!  My favourite part of the gown however is the very intricate lace detailing.  Needless to say, the dress went over incredibly well and will be recopied thousands of times over.

As to be expected, Kate Middleton, now known as the Duchess of Cambridge, was constantly compared to Princess Diana before, during and after the Royal Wedding.  The 'People's Princess' was absolutely adored by the public and to some, Kate Middleton was a threat to her memory.  Other members of the public however embraced Kate with open arms and wished the couple the very best.

Kate was 29 years old on the day of her wedding.  Diana was at the tender age of 20 when she married Prince Charles.  Diana was nervous and shy on her wedding day whereas Kate seemed quite comfortable and calm.  Diana came from a well known family whereas Kate's family members are simply commoners without a drop of Royal blood.  The differences between Diana and Kate are many.  One similarity however is the engagement ring both women were given.

When Prince William and Kate announced their engagement to the world, William stated that this was his way of including his mother in the wedding and the marriage.

Diana's wedding back in the summer of 1981 was much more traditional than that of William and Kate's.  Diana wore a dress with an incredibly long train, 25 feet long to be exact.  David and Elizabeth Emanuel designed Di's wedding dress.

Fashion has changed over the decades, but nothing is more romantic than a Royal Wedding.

xoxo,
Rebecca
